A man driving more than 120 miles per hour on Interstate 85 in South Carolina, while wearing a ski mask, ended up hitting a car head-on in front of an elementary school in Anderson County, according to authorities. The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, a deputy was on I-85 when a speeding driver came up from behind and slammed on the gas pedal, exuding speeds of more than 120 miles an hour.The deputy said the man was wearing a ski mask. A chase started, but when the driver reached Clemson Boulevard, the chase was terminated by the deputy due to the highly populated area, the sheriff’s office said. The suspect vehicle was then spotted at a nearby QT, but authorities say the driver managed to maneuver out of the parking lot and back onto the road. Authorities say the driver then began driving recklessly on Martin Luther King Boulevard where he hit a car head-on in front of Whitehall Elementary School.The school was put on a secure hold during the investigation. Authorities say the person in the car that the suspect hit had minor non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect, Vicente J. Garcia-Hernandez, was arrested at the scene of the crash and charged with the following: Two counts of failure to stop for blue lights Two counts of reckless driving Driving without a license Operating or permitting operation of a vehicle which is not registered and licensed Uninsured motor vehicle violation Removing or affixing license plate to conceal or misrepresent identity of owner Hit and run
